Character & Plot
In this portion I'm gonna be talking you about the main character of the Skeleton key. The main character in this book happens to be non other then Alex Rider. Alex Rider is a protagonist character in the series of Skeleton key and many other Anthony Horowitz books.(http://www.anthonyhorowitz.com/work) (Horowitz, back of the book) Alex rider is a young 14 year ago old boy who happens to work for intelligence service for MI6 the British.( Horowitz, Pg. 5 ch. 1 In The Dark)Technically he didn't volunteer to work for them but was forced into the he occupation after the Mi6 done some series of investigations on Alex. Which that lead to getting to know about it Alex. Not only that but Alex has happen to be athletic talented kid because of this it assisted him during missions. Which was something that is he MI6 was looking for in their agents. ( Anthony Horowitz, Pg.18 ch. 2 Match Point)
Furthermore, we’re now going into the setup or the next plot. The story happens to take place at different variety of places but mainly the 1st setting came from the author's life, like what he struggle with during his younger life. (https://literature.britishcouncil.org/writer/anthony-horowitz) If you haven't read the Author's purpose, Anthony Horowitz came from a tough life where reading/writing was the only thing that made him happy. So far in chapter 1 the setting was based on the lifetime where Anthony Horowitz placed his 1st rugby came at Rugby School. ( Horowitz, Pg. 18, Ch. 2 Match Point) ( Horowitz, Pg. 36, ch.3 blood And strawberries) The other settings was something he imagine during my his free time and Also when he was bored.
Important Theme & Symbols
A theme that I found interesting was how that the beginning in chapter 1 it talked about how the main character Alex was struggling with family and friends, educational issues. At the beginning the theme begins at school that Alex went to. In this case I found interesting because this same school appeared to have gave Alex difficulties just like how Anthony Horowitz did during his younger life. Being a 14 year old boy isn't easy for both Alex and Horowitz due to the struggle of education and the interference. Alex interference was that he had a group called of organizations stalking him in the shadows secreting studying him figuring out his strength and weakness. One day after or during a series of rugby game Alex was being watched by CIA agent who later on approaches him telling Alex he's in danger and the only way he's gonna be safe is by coming with them where they could keep him in custody. ( Horowitz Pg.1 Ch.1 In The Dark) But as the story continues the theme goes to a different place, in this place happens to be in the office or building of the agency where Alex learns that he was lied too. In chapter 5 he realizes that the CIA captured him to use him for a recon mission. (Horowitz Pg. 77 Ch. Two Weeks In The Sun) A mission where only professionals are needed but instead they want to send an intelligent teenage boy who's an American and not British. Although he feels uneasy about it Alex accepts the jobs and gets to work. To find out more Read the Skeleton Key
Symbols
At the start of chapter one it talks about how Alex caught and shot the ball in the net. This symbolizes the life of the author during his younger 14 year old days, but more specific the time where he went to Rugby school to play rugby.
